The parents need to understand why their children should go to school instead of work. They need to set the right example. This is the starting point.
For these children a good education is a prerequisite to getting a well paid job, so we send the children to middle class English schools.
The community's economy relies on making cane baskets, but there is hardly a market for cane work. So we teach them skills and provide work.
The living conditions in the community are poor to say the least. There is no access to clean drinking water, a doctor or medicines. We provide these facilities.
